Time to Stand Up

Assisting the work of the Second Angel's Message

In contemplating the the guiding principles of Advent Venture Studio, in the last post we looked to the First Angel as our primary filter for what we build and why we build it. The second tenet naturally comes from the Second Angels Message.

The First Angel awakens us to the true.
The Second Angel calls for faith in action out of the false.

Sodom, Gomorrah, and the Angels at the Door

When I think of the message of the Second Angel, I think of Sodom and Gomorrah.

I imagine Lot and his family inside the city… living in a system they believed was best for their success, a system they believed would hold. And then I imagine the angels arriving… not with philosophical arguments, not with theological nuance… but with urgency.

"Get up.
Get out.
Now."

They didn't explain economic theory.
They didn't debate city planning.
They didn't offer a twelve-week seminar.

They said destruction is imminent.
This city life is unsustainable.
Remaining here is fatal.
You must move now.

And then comes the part we rarely reflect on from Genesis 19:16:

The angels took them by the hand.

That's what the Second Angel's Message does. God taking a sleeping, confused, falsely comfortable people by the hand and saying:

"You are not safe here.
This system will collapse on top of you.
Come with Me."

Advent Ventures seeks to work in concert with heavenly agencies, as seen in Genesis 19:16, where human hands were guided by divine hands. In the same spirit, we aim to extend God's mercy to those who are ready to rise, take hold, and be led out of the systems now collapsing around us.

Advent Ventures seeks to work in concert with heavenly agencies, becoming human instrumentalities through which God's mercy can reach those who are ready to take action.

Babylon Has Already Collapsed

The message of the Second Angel is direct, unfiltered, and impossible to soften:

"Babylon is fallen, is fallen..." (Revelation 14:8)

We often talk as if Babylon's fall is future.
Scripture says it is past.

Not "will fall."
Not "is falling."

Is fallen.

Look around you. The systems that once promised security, prosperity, and stability are trembling under their own weight. The conveniences we thanked God for now bind us. The leaders we trusted openly work against truth. The world we assumed was stable has already been severed from its roots.

But like a tree that has been cut… it doesn't always fall immediately.
Sometimes it stands for a moment.
Balanced.
Suspended.
Silent.
Deceptively upright… even though the axe has already done its work.

Babylon is that tree.
Cut.
Severed.
Already fallen in heaven's judgment as it's roots were always in the earthly.

"The tree of knowledge has its roots in the earth. It is of the earth, earthy" (PH140 7.3)

The false tree was deceptive as it stood. For a brief moment in history… after the wars, during the manufacturing boom… Babylon looked stable. Degrees guaranteed employment. Cities promised opportunity. Convenience felt like advancement. The very systems that would later enslave us were marketed as progress. We did not yet see the dangers hidden inside the foods they called healthy, the jobs they called secure, the schools they called essential, the lifestyles they called success.

But the tree was already cut. What looked like strength was simply momentum from a previous age, a temporary balance before the fall.

Now it is about to topple over.

We are living in the final seconds before it hits the ground.

And the tragedy?
Most people can't even hear the cracking.

But There Is Another Collapse We Don't Talk About

There has been a warning sign all along, a crack in the structure… the collapse of the family itself. It is the earliest and clearest evidence that the system we trusted was already failing at the foundation.

Due to this, the original outpost model, the biblical family, has largely been decimated.

Abraham's household had hundreds.
Patriarchal families had layers of generations, a built-in workforce, educators, caregivers, worship leaders.
A single family could sustain agriculture, ministry, and refuge.

Today?

Families are small.
Families are scattered.
Families are fractured.
Families are absent.

This is not a call to "just have more kids." It is a call to understand the time we are living in and to recognize that we need a new approach to caring for God's people in these final days. Like the tribe of Issachar, we are called to "understand the times" and prepare intelligently for what is here and what is coming.

We have to face the current reality:

Singles in apartments.
Divorcees isolated.
Parents raising children without support.
Widows with no household.
Young adults forced into cities.
Elders outsourced to institutions.

Jesus has given us the mindset needed in Matthew 12:50 as to who we must collaborate with, who our family is:

"Whoever does the will of My Father is My family."

This is a call to a collaborative mindset… to community-based projects… to form intentional communities and spiritual families that pull together the scattered pieces of households smashed by false systems.

A Clearer Understanding

And here is the bridge many never see:

Babylon's fall and the family's collapse are not two separate stories. They are the same story.

When we are scattered, we are weakened. That was the strategy of Babylon all along… fragment the household, isolate the individual, and break the power that only united families and communities can wield.

Babylon's systems were designed to erode the very structures God created for human stability: faith, family, education, economy, and community.

This Is What Advent Ventures Must Factor In

It must be clear, we cannot build a treehouse on a tree that has already been cut down.

Babylon is a fallen tree, so anything built on it… its banks, its food systems, its educational pipelines, its work structures, its digital dependencies… will fall with it. The Second Angel's Message is not simply a warning to leave; it is a command to stop anchoring your life to systems that cannot stand.

Dependence on broken systems is bondage, and true freedom comes only from trusting God's provision rather than Babylon's supply chains.

"The greatest change we need to make is from consumption to production... Hence the futility of revolutionaries who have no gardens, who depend on the very system they attack, and who produce words and bullets, not food and shelter."

Inspiration made this clear long before Bill Mollison echoed a secular understanding of it.

Simply put: You cannot fight Babylon while living off Babylon.

This is the second core tenet of Advent Venture Studio:
We build systems that do not depend on Babylon in order to function.

Because at the core of it all, God is looking for a demonstration of what His system looks like… not merely a critique of the deceiver's failed system, but a living, breathing better alternative. Babylon has given the world a long, painful display of what fear-based systems produce. Heaven now calls for a counter-demonstration: one built on love, interdependence, truth, and self-sacrifice
We need systems which are founded on love, not on fear.

The Second Angel inspires a call to action: to prepare ourselves so that God can use us to prepare others. To build the outposts, the remnant economies, the spiritual families, and the places of refuge that will be needed when the shaking breaks households and for when Babylon demands allegiance.

We must strive to remove any barrier we can

This is our calling.
This is our responsibility.
This is the work of the Second Angel for our time.

And I pray that the Advent Venture Studio can be used to begin that work in earnest.
