Android app privacy addendum
Effective date: 2026-09-07
This addendum applies only to the Advent Movement Android app distributed on Google Play, package com.adventmovement.app, operated by Advent Ventures. The Android app is intended for people 18 years of age and older. It does not change the eligibility rules for separate websites or supervised youth programs described elsewhere in this policy. For this Android app, the specific information below supplements the policy above and takes precedence wherever the two differ.
Information collected and why
The app uses an email address and password for account registration and sign-in. The table describes the 18 data categories collected through the app and its integrated services. “Required” includes information generated automatically when using the relevant account or app services. “Optional” means you can choose not to provide that information by leaving optional fields blank or not using the associated feature. Optional features may need the information described here to work.
| Data category | Required or optional | Examples and purposes |
|---|---|---|
| Approximate location | Required | IP-derived country, region and city are recorded during registration or sign-in; you may also supply a city or country. Used for app functionality, account management and location-based matching/personalization. Embedded YouTube also uses approximate location for playback, analytics, advertising and fraud/security purposes described below. This is not GPS tracking. |
| Name | Required | First and last names and profile/display names identify your account and you in community features; used for app functionality and account management. |
| Email address | Required | Used for registration, sign-in, verification, password reset, account management, support and protection against account abuse. |
| User IDs | Required | Account identifiers link your profile, assessment, matching and conversation records; used for app functionality, account management, personalization and security. |
| Phone number | Optional | Profile phone and WhatsApp contact numbers, if supplied; used for profile/contact functionality and account management. |
| Political or religious beliefs | Optional | The app's religious and spiritual questionnaires collect beliefs and doctrine-related answers for assessments and personalized matching. This category describes those religious responses; it does not mean that installing the app supplies a political opinion. |
| Other personal information | Optional | Profile fields such as gender, date of birth, relationship status, languages and social-profile details, and employment/capability responses; used for profile functionality, account management and personalized matching. |
| Health information | Optional | Self-reported diet, alcohol consumption, sleep routines and health-related self-reflection in assessments; used for lifestyle assessment and personalized matching. |
| Fitness information | Optional | Self-reported current or desired routines that can include exercise or workouts; used for lifestyle assessment and personalized matching. |
| Other in-app messages | Optional | Conversation messages, replies and associated participant/reporting information; used to deliver conversations and support abuse prevention and safety handling. Messages are readable by the service and are not end-to-end encrypted. |
| Photos | Optional | Profile/avatar photos you choose to upload; used for profile functionality and account management. |
| Contacts | Optional | The app's own social connections, invitations, conversation participants and blocks; used for community functionality and personalized connections. The app does not import your device address book. |
| App interactions | Required for automatic service/account activity; individual actions can be optional | Service activity, activity timestamps, conversation/read state and feature interactions; used to operate the app, understand activity and protect the service. YouTube player interactions also support playback, analytics, advertising and fraud/security purposes. |
| In-app search history | Optional | Search terms sent to the service for projects and other in-app lookups; used to return results. This does not mean access to your browser's history. |
| Other user-generated content | Optional | Assessment free text, arguments, project descriptions, match notes and information you supply in reports or deletion requests; used for the corresponding app features and personalization where relevant. |
| Other actions | Optional | Endorsements, reactions, saved matching preferences, project join/respond actions and event responses; used for community features and personalization. |
| Device or other IDs | Required | Firebase installation identifiers and push tokens support delivery and service security. YouTube can receive device/browser identifiers and a device-attestation token for playback, analytics, advertising and integrity/security purposes. Disabling notification permission does not disable all installation/token collection. |
| Diagnostics | Optional, associated with chat | Pusher service-error information, which can include an IP address, is processed to diagnose and analyze failures in realtime messaging. |
Health and fitness answers are self-reported questionnaire content, not sensor or Health Connect readings. They support lifestyle assessment and matching; these features do not provide medical diagnosis or treatment. The current native app does not collect payment-card details or offer an in-app payment checkout; the broader policy's payment-provider description concerns other services or separate flows.
Service providers and third-party sharing
Our backend receives account, profile, assessment and community information to provide the app. Information you send in conversations or contribute to shared community features is available to the other participants or the relevant audience of that feature.
Firebase Cloud Messaging and Installations (Google) process installation identifiers, push tokens and service-related technical information to provide notifications and maintain the service. Firebase is initialized by the app; notification display permission is separate from identifier collection. For ordinary delivery, Google processes customer data on the developer's behalf under its processing terms. See Firebase's Android data disclosure, Firebase privacy information and Firebase's processing terms.
Pusher Channels (Bird) processes realtime conversation events, connection and channel information, and service-error diagnostics to deliver chat and diagnose failures. Its ordinary message transport and operational support are performed as a service provider under its processing terms. Pusher's published product terms describe error logs containing IP addresses, limited to the most recent 100 errors for up to 14 days. That provider-specific limit is not a deletion period for conversations stored by Advent Movement. See Bird's data processing agreement and Pusher product terms, section 10.
Embedded YouTube videos (Google) are different from providers acting only on our instructions. Opening an assessment that contains a video initializes the embedded player and can send technical information before you press Play; playback sends additional interaction information. This can include IP address and approximate location, device/browser identifiers, page or player context, and viewing interactions. Android WebView playback also uses app metadata and a device-attestation token for integrity checks. Google processes embedded service information for playback, measurement/analytics, advertising and fraud or abuse prevention under its own policies. See Google's embedded-service privacy notice, Google's Privacy Policy and YouTube's Android WebView integrity information.
The player uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode and does not automatically start video playback. Privacy-enhanced mode does not mean no data collection or no advertising: non-personalized ads may still appear. See YouTube's privacy-enhanced embed explanation. There is no separate app-level consent switch that prevents player initialization after you open a video-containing assessment.
Accordingly, the app's Google Play disclosure treats approximate location, app interactions, and device or other IDs as both collected and shared, for app functionality, analytics, advertising or marketing, and fraud prevention, security and compliance. First-party account management and personalization uses in the table remain separate. Ordinary transfers to Firebase and Pusher acting on our behalf are still collection, but fall under Google Play's service-provider exception to its “shared” label. That label does not mean that no provider receives data. It also does not mean all profile, belief, health or message information is sent to YouTube. See Google Play's definitions.
Safety and deletion email links open your chosen email application with a draft you can review. The app does not read your email inbox. When you send a request, we receive the information you include, and your email provider handles the email under its own terms.
Security, deletion and retention
The app's API requests, photo uploads, realtime chat transport and integrated service connections use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS). This is not a claim of end-to-end encryption: the service can process message content to provide conversations.
Permanent account deletion removes the account record and revokes its access tokens. Deactivation is a separate, reversible action. Some information can remain after deletion: shared conversation messages can remain with the deleted account no longer linked as their sender, and deletion records can retain the supplied reason and notes plus limited operational information.
There is currently no scheduled automatic purge of retained messages or deletion records. These records may be retained indefinitely unless removed separately. No fixed purge period for these records is promised by the broader policy's general retention language.
You can permanently delete your account through Profile → Edit profile → Delete Account, or request deletion without the app by emailing rob@bertholf.com from your registered email address with the subject Advent Movement account deletion request. Do not send your password. If you also want personal information removed from shared content, identify that content and include a conversation or content identifier if available; do not send sensitive attachments. You can ask about the status and scope of a request, what remains retained, and why. See the account deletion page for the full instructions and retention explanation.
Deletion of an Advent Movement account is not a promise that independently held Google/YouTube information is erased or that every provider identifier is deleted at the same time. Provider handling and available controls are described in the linked provider notices.
